Moving Advice for Seniors

Learn about Downsizing Advice and Garage Sale Assistance for FREE!!!

Regardless of a person's age, moving can be viewed as one of those good news vs. bad news event.

For instance, the optimist looks forward to a "fresh start", while the pessimist views the experience as "having to start over."

The first looks at the event as a good reason to finally clean house and get rid of a lot of junk, while the latter may view it as a sad time to have to part with some lifelong "treasures."

This is one case where both parties may be right.

Making the decision to move is the first, but not necessarily the hardest step. After making the initial decision, seniors in particular need to tackle a number of essential tasks on the way to buying a new home (Watson's Realty can help) or moving into a non-ownership type of living arrangement.

Either way, here are the exciting (dreaded) tasks:

  • Taking inventory of accumulated possessions.
  • Deciding what to keep and what to dispose of (and actually doing it).
  • Selling an existing residence. (Watson's Realty can help!)
  • Planning the arrangement of the new home/apartment space.
  • Packing up.
  • Actually moving out.
  • Finally moving in to the new place.

For many seniors who will be downsizing to smaller homes or apartments, a major obstacle is how to deal with a lifetime accumulation of "things".

To help overcome procrastination and difficult decisions, some seniors may want friends and family to join the planning process and help with the transition.

Or a particularly smart senior may prefer to enlist the professional services of an objective third party. Many seniors find this arrangement less tense than working with their own children, some "experts" say. (IMAGINE THAT).

For instance, consider this offer of help from Watson's Realty.

As Seniors Real Estate Specialists®, both Scott and JK are well versed in the needs of seniors and can offer assistance in many ways like helping sort through belongings, holding a garage sale, arranging professionals to help fix up the house for sale and providing a list of professionals to help with the move.

And, believe it or not, Watson's Realty offers complimentary Yard/Lawn/Garage Sales to any client who buys or sells a home thorough the company.
